Punk phase... just a phase?

my 10 year old son Dylan is suddenly a self declared "punk"

he listens to punk rock, is obsessed with the band Good Charlotte, is dressing in punk style clothing, spikes his hair all up, and now is begging us to let him pierce his ear.

I pray this is just a phase, all this rebellious nonsense is annoying. What do you all think?

Punk phase... just a phase?

I have an 11 year old who started going through this about a year ago. Hes chilled it down a little but I let him go through it. It helped him discover what he likes, and who he is (for the moment). He wants to get his ear pierced but Im going to make him wait a while. As fas as his hair and clothes, I let him express himself that way. Dont worry, everything will be fine

Punk phase... just a phase?

Your son is a poser. Once someone tells him this he will stop. No one likes a poser. But let him pierce his ear. because thats something that anyone can do and when he gets out of this phase he can take it out if he wants too.

Punk phase... just a phase?

let him pierce his ear-- its just an ear and this is just a phase... the more u tell him NO he is gonna want to do it more and more.... but the more u let him (to a certain extent) the faster he'll get tired of this and grow out of the phase.

so true.

Punk phase... just a phase?

Aww let him be. He should be able to get his ear pierced. He is following the style of some older people. Well basically he is a poser. At age ten everybody is a poser though. It may be just a phase.

P.S. the more you say no the more he pushes the limits. He will rebel if you repeatedly tell him no.

Punk phase... just a phase?

I think your son needs some serious *** whuppin...

and yes its just a phase :P

meh better to be that than listen to rap, act up, and smoke weed.

Punk phase... just a phase?

baha, just a phase.

its not even real punk music.

Punk phase... just a phase?

All people are different, but if you let him dress his way (within reason) and listen to his music and give him enough room to be independent, it probably won't amount to anything harmful. Keep an eye on him without stifling what he sees as his individualism, because otherwise he'll probably grow to resent your authority. Let him see that his individualism doesn't bother you, and then he won't feel the need to be "rebellious."

I went through a little punk phase when I was about his age, and my parents let me dress how I liked and listen to the music I wanted, but still made sure I wasn't participating in anything illicit. I grew out of it by age 15 or so, though he might not. If he doesn't, that's fine, as long as he's not getting into anything dangerous. If you suspect that he is, that's another issue entirely

Punk phase... just a phase?

Since he is young it probably is . in a couple of weeks he might want to be a EMo(emotional) kid, then a preppy kid,or a jock, skater boy, or a daredevil hopefully by high school he start to come into his own and find his identity that will hopefully end up him just being himself.

Punk phase... just a phase?

I don't see a problem.......... he is a kid and frankly kids don't like stereo types, ESPECIALLY from mothers and fathers....as a kid you know you didn't like what your parents had to say about the "style" but did it anyways........... It is normal.............. set limits though.... he is young like no profanity in the music ...... time will tell if it is a phase or not.

Punk phase... just a phase?

Trust me, I was in my "emo" phase quite recently. It's definitely a phase. He'll get over it, maybe not soon, but he will. One possibility is that he's trying to give him an "identity" at school as well as at home. He's probably trying to be tough and independant. I assure you, he'll mature and realize that he's his own self. Most likely, he'll be very rebellious and will get agitated easily. However, just to ensure that he won't grow up like this, build a healthy relationship with him.

Punk phase... just a phase?

yes its just a phase he's actual personality style is going t come out like when he is 16...don't worry.

Punk phase... just a phase?

Its a phase and if its not its okay. You have to be the parent and decide whether he is allowed to pierce his ear or not. As long as he a good student and doing his chores and a all around good kid it sounds okay to me.

Punk phase... just a phase?

Put your foot down. Confiscate all of his stuff. Take away his gel. Take him to Church. Give him some good Christian music. He will gradually grow mature, and out of this phase.

Punk phase... just a phase?

Well, if his music of choice is Good Charlotte, you either still have a long way to go or are just getting a mild case.

I went through a "punk" phase myself. I went from being a cheerleader, to a "Skater", then to punk, then all of the sudden on my 16th birthday I just decided that that wasn't who I really was, and I went back to my Abercrombie and Hollister.

The punk phase is a very trying phase, from Dying hair rediculous colors without permission to painting fingernails black... but If you are supportive and just let the phase work its way through and dont give him a reason to rebel, it will go away quickly.

Punk phase... just a phase?

there's nothign wrong with it at all i hate people that associate punk with rebellion and satan worshipers. im emo/punk and i love god get good grades and awards in German. i don't do drugs.

Punk phase... just a phase?
